The Indian Navy Band took part in a grand military tattoo during Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Day celebrations in Port Moresby, earning wide appreciation from dignitaries and the audience for its blend of martial tunes and Indian melodies.
Highlighting the event, the Indian Navy Spokesperson said on X that the performance symbolised unity, discipline, and shared heritage, as bands from several nations came together to celebrate the milestone through the universal language of music.
Adding to India’s presence at the celebrations, the indigenously built anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kadmatt arrived in Port Moresby on Saturday for a goodwill visit. According to the Ministry of Defence, the ship’s participation reflects the growing friendship and maritime cooperation between India and Papua New Guinea, under the framework of India’s Act East Policy.
The visit features INS Kadmatt’s participation in the official Independence Day parade, cultural programmes, and interactions with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) on maritime security, disaster relief, and defence cooperation. The ship will also host PNG’s Chief of Defence Forces to showcase India’s strides in self-reliance (Aatma Nirbharta) in defence.
The engagement follows the momentum of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Papua New Guinea in 2023, which strengthened bilateral ties and expanded defence and development partnerships.
The Indian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to building “Bridges of Friendship” through goodwill visits, capacity-building, and collaborative maritime efforts across the Indo-Pacific.
